Tweaking configs are helpful to maximize the game's FPS. Q3 support tweaking its configs to maximize the performance of the game on low end hardware PC. To use configs you can either put the commands in Developer Console by pressing ~ in the game or edit "baseq3/q3config.cfg" file in the game installed directory.
